MkIIs on test

The first batch of MkIIs to be used by Cargo-D were taken out on test on 2nd October.  Vehicles 1254, 5971, 6008, 6046, 6117, 6122, 6173 accompanied by BSO 9508 operated with Class 86 86101 from Crewe to Carlisle and back.

The test run was not without incident as the run was delayed by a track circuit failure north of Wigan and a points failure north of Carnforth. The train was also regrettably bricked north of Carnforth, breaking a window.

However, the vehicles ran without problems and where the train was allowed to run, the locomotive performed superbly. The train returned to LNWR Crewe just over an hour late.
